Pressing on:
Welcome to the new world. I am glad you made it. The last few weeks
have surely been an adult dose. I hope you are doing alright and feeling
slightly better. For me, the last weeks have been filled with some very
huge reassessments after a few good-byes to old friends lost in the
World Trade Center Attacks. I grew up in the New York City suburb of
Rye, NY and attended high school in New Rochelle, New York. I performed
up and down the Metro North Train Line (many times at a venue right
at the train station) and often in New York City on and off for the
past 13 years. Because of this, I knew I was bound to know a few of
those lost. I did, but none of the news wasn't shocking or numbing.
Every single life lost has been an unmitigated tragedy that screams
for answers. Answers to the questions about how it could happen. Why
fate chooses some? Rectifying for the uselessness of it all. The waste
of it all.
What now? What about now?
What I see is a very true and real sense of change in the air. Change
for good. Not just lipservice, but action. A new plan is afoot. A new
human scheme. There truly is a new movement at work, a battle cry to
"unite the tribes" and do for others. Or, at the very least,
to consider others.
I saw it at the World Hunger
Year Benefit at The Hudson River Museum. There was a celebratory
feeling of the new possibilities. The turnout was heartwarming, the
venue beautiful, the music inspiring. Money was raised, friendships
were formed and big laughs were had in the process. In short, everybody
won. A sincere thank you to everyone who made the effort to come. Thank
you. I can't wait to do it again. You know I will let you know when
the time comes.
Next, The Benefit for The Restaurant
Workers Relief Fund/ AMERICAN RED CROSS at the World Famous Cellar
Bar in Larchmont, NY on FRIDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 5th 2001 at 9:00pm.
