Computers just shut down. It happens to me a lot. Blown motherboards, fried monitors, harddrives seizing up. For me, any down time for computer repairs slows up the enterprise quite a bit. Sort of like getting your wallet stolen with all those credit cards and other little doo-dads. I feel out of touch. It hurts my soul. I, admittedly, rely on the computer to communicate. I avoid the phone and run screaming when its whistle blows. I need to deal with things on my time. I like the glow of the hot screen and the hum of the electricity coursing through the wires. It soothes me. If I haven't answered your email, I apologize. I will now. Now that my computer works. Been running into the same problems while making the new CD. One night we lost five of my newly recorded songs to an overloaded recording hard drive. What a disaster. Pete and Dick were able to recover some of it, but it was a mighty setback. I almost wanted to give up. Stop fighting the machine and go play my guitar for some real people. After a few days, I gave up that give- up idea and we reconvened with new resolve. Besides, I love the wire and chip. You just have to let it do what it wants. Let it ramble and cough. It will return. It wants to serve. You just have to convice yourself that it's true. The computer is your compadre. The hum is a song. Here is a press release for an upcoming show in Massachusetts with some really fine songwriters. It is a sort of pre-Falcon Ridge Folk Festival/ Beatle Tribute. We will each do two Beatle songs and then share some originals. I hope you can make it. One more thing. The Marc Douglas Berardo Home Page is one year old this month. Thank you for checking in and for all the comments, suggestions and high fives. We are happy to serve you. _________________________________________________________________________________________

DOWN
& DIRTY PRODUCTIONS
Boston The Namasté Café in Newton, MA is pleased to host Beatles Tribute, the first of a collection of collective songwriter shows set to honor the works of particular artists with some of the most prominent up and coming singer-songwriters. With what started as an idea to raise money to provide several of this year's artists to travel to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, future shows, such as the planned tribute to Harry Chapin, anticipate that a portion of the show's proceeds will go to charity. THE ARTISTS: Originally from New York City, Marc Douglas Berardo's connection with Boston is strong, having attended college in Boston, Mass. In the early 1990's Marc bounced around between North Florida and Northern California, performing full time, opening for songwriters such as Chris Smither, The Buffalo Springfield and Brooks Williams. Marc won the 2000 Suwannee Springfest Songwriting Contest and participated in the Falcon Ridge 2001 New Artist Showcase. Marc is signed with Hayloft Records where is third release is due for release in May. From Syracuse, New York, Ashley Cox has toured with talents like MeShell Ndegeocello and recorded with the Fun Lovin Criminals. She's even worked with Russ Titleman, who produced Eric Clapton's Grammy award winning Unplugged CD. In 1997, she won the Syracuse Area Music Award (or SAMMY) for Best New Artist. The last few years have found Ashley touring coffee shops, clubs and festivals all over the eastern and mid-western United States. In the spring of 2000, Ashley released her much anticipated, and well received, debut CD, As Above, So Below. Rachel Cross has received many awards including a Mid-Atlantic Song Contest award for her song "Sound of the Bullet", Song of the Week on MP3.COM for her song "Same Guy", and Best World Music Vocalist from the Washington Area Music Association in 1996, 1997,1999, & 2000. She has also been nominated for many awards including Best Contemporary Folk Female Vocalist in 2001. She has been fortunate to share the stage with many luminaries including Shawn Colvin, The Neville Brothers, Los Lobos, political comedian Al Franken, and Jesse Jackson. Her debut solo CD, "Angels & Aliens, Monsters & Freaks" has just been released on Dreamy Eyes Records and is receiving airplay across the nation. Boston's Mark Nicholas has emerged as a top songwriter after having toured with artists such as 10,000 Maniacs, Meatloaf and the Hooters as a technician and sound engineer, and after having acted as an assistant recording engineer for top national artists including Whitney Houston. As a songwriter, Mark has twice won the Northern California Songwriters Association Award (NCSA) award for Best Performer and has been a finalist in the Sierra Songwriters Awards in 2000. He has opened for performers such as John Hiatt, Shawn Colvin and Ben Arnold. His critically acclaimed second CD, Standing Right Here, was released in early 2001. After the success of her Boston Music Award Nominated CD Colored in Poetry, Jenny Reynolds has become a nationally touring artist, and has shared the stage with many acts including John Gorka, Jill Sobule and Catie Curtis. Reynolds is an associate producer of the critically acclaimed Respond CD (Signature Sounds), which to date has raised over $100,000 for Respond, Inc. of Somerville, MA. Most recently playing and writing material with a back-porch feel, many of her songs can be listened to while drinking a beer out of the bottle, yet have been featured on ABC, CBS and NBC television. Her new CD, Bet on the Wind, will be released on September 25th, and is co-produced by Richard Gates and Chris Rival. One of the most exciting and powerful singer/songwriters to emerge from the Boston music scene, Kevin So has been nominated 7 times for a Boston Music Award and was chosen in 1998 as one of the "best unsigned artists" by the internationally-broadcast program "Acoustic Cafe." He has also been invited for the third time to play the main stage at the world-renowned Kerrville Music Festival in Texas as well as such famed clubs as Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago and The Bottom Line in New York City. Kevin has opened for some of the industry's best known acts including Richie Havens, Billy Bragg, Joe Cocker, Randy Newman, Mary Lou Lord, Livingston Taylor, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Chris Smither and Dar Williams. From Takoma Park, Maryland, Mary Sue Twohy's smooth vocals dancing lightly above subtle, expressive guitar garnered her the Washington Area Musicians Association (WAMA) 1999 New Artist Award and many other 2000 and 2001 WAMA nominations. Training Butterflies, and The Risk Involved has received airplay across the USA and reviews in both Sing Out! and Dirty Linen folk music magazines in 2002.
