This will be very simple. Friday Night, October 5th, The World Famous Cellar Bar will open its doors to raise money for The Restaurant Workers Relief Fund and the American Red Cross. These two funds are currently serving the families of the victims of the World Trade Center Attacks. Here is the best part. Every penny spent in The Cellar Bar that night will be split evenly between these two organizations. All tips, salaries, CD's sold and side bets will be included. Basic math : spend $3 on a beer and $3 goes into giving pot. In a world full of bottom line and rents to pay, this is a very generous move by the good people of the Cellar Bar. I will be performing along with my brother Chris and we hope to get some visits from some special guest musicians. Also on the bill will be the Cellar Bar Regulars including my old friends Dennis Gallagher and Gene Kelly, both of whom have spearheaded this event.
The Restaurant Workers Relief Fund is an organization that was conceived as a direct response to the families of the hundreds of restaurant personnel including waiters/waitresses and busboys, cooks and others in the service industries that were lost in the World Trade Center Tragedy. These were hard working people who in many instances left no life insurance policies, college funds or any securities in place for the surviving members of their family. The Restaurant Workers Relief Fund will be distributing contributions directly, without administrative costs or other go-betweens to dilute the final number.
The American Red Cross is a nationally known service organization that has stepped up to meet the victims needs. The Red Cross is NOT a government agency and its workers are mostly volunteers. (The ratio of volunteers to paid workers is 36:1). This fact enables the Red Cross to move donations directly and efficiently. This expedient response is excruciatingly valuble at this time.
Please join us on OCT 5th to celebrate life,
to remember others and to give a little of what we have back to those in need.
