Very sad news.
Sheriff Marge Mueller of Luchenbach has passed away. She was a Texas legend. Marge went out of her way to make Me and my brother Chris feel like bigshots when we came to town. She had a big laugh and always gave us "pickers prices." She was my friend. I will miss her.

Just Plain Folks Music Awards 2004
Song Nominee Male Singer Songwriter Category

The Story (Life After Hemingway)

--------------------

The Just Plain Folks Music Organization has officially announced the nominees for their 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards. After receiving over 10,000 albums and 140,000 songs from 85 countries, Nominations for Best Song in 48 Genres and Best Album in 57 categories have been posted.

I am very pleased and more than just a little freaked out to have been nominated in the Best Song/ Male Singer Songwriter category. I am in some pretty heavy company.

Other nominees include:

Andrew Gold-famous for his work with James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt, Paul McCartney, Don Henley, Art Garfunkle and others, Gold's 1977 #4 hit Lonely Boy is one of my all time favorite songs. I have every one of his records. A musical hero.

Colin Hay-The voice of Men at Work (you remember those MTV Videos..The Land Down Under, Cargo), he just finished touring the world with Ringo Starr (Beatles) and has a new, acclaimed solo CD out. Wow.

Jack Tempchin-he wrote Peaceful Easy Feeling and Already Gone for The Eagles. That's pretty good.

Kenny Edwards-Also from Linda Rondstadt's famous touring band, Edwards wrote Hasten Down the Wind and many other hits. Audiences don't know how very familiar they are with the sound of Edwards' voice and his wonderful musicianship - but everyday somewhere in the world, those records are played and people are hearing him. I am pretty sure I have every record that he has played on including those with Waren Zevon, Stevie Nicks and currently, the ones with his new group Brydle whose members include Karla Bonoff. He is the man behind the curtain.

Other nominees include some very impressive company: Marc Von Em, James Lee Stanley, Terrence Martin , Peter Himmelman and more.

Congratulations to Producer Prof. Dick Neal and enginneer Pete Szymanski for making the kind of record that stood out among the 1000's of CDs submitted. Also, the wad of cash in the CD booklet didn't hurt either. The Awards Ceremony will be held Sunday, November 7th, 2004 in Hollywood, CA at the Avalon Ballroom. What to wear?
